Agadir, located in the southwest of Morocco, is the first seaside resort of the country but also, perhaps, the most famous.
Today, far from this sad episode of its history, Agadir is a booming city, where it is good to lie on the beach, to enjoy the sun and the mild climate, 340 days a year, which makes it a seaside destination that can be visited throughout the year.
With its large bay, and beaches as far as the eye can see, Agadir and its regions are the place of pilgrimage for surfers and water sports enthusiasts, who come to enjoy the beautiful waves of the Atlantic.
The ruins of the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella are unanimously appreciated: the view on the capital of Souss is breathtaking. Or a ride on the Ferris wheel on the city's cornice to enjoy a sunset from the air.
The new medina, designed and built by the Italian architect Coco Polizzi, was actually built in 1992 to restore the ruins of the old medina that was razed in 1960. Although it is a new building, the dexterity of the architecture and the beauty of the place gives the impression of having always been there.
Agadir is also famous for its Marina, where it is nice to stroll at nightfall to enjoy the salty and iodized air of the Atlantic Ocean, or to go on a day trip aboard a boat or a yacht off the city.
Every year the city hosts the Timitar festival, for Amazigh music.
A visit to Agadir would not be complete without touring the region and visiting the surrounding beaches: the fishing village of Taghazout a handful of kilometers to the north, or that of Mirleft a little further south.
Our favorite? The beach of Legzira, classified as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
For a safari about sixty kilometers south of the city, head for the Souss-Massa National Park, where you will have the opportunity to see a great diversity of fauna and flora, and especially endangered species, which you may never see elsewhere.
You can also visit the largest crocodile park, with more than 300 varieties, and its most breathtaking botanical garden. Don't miss the opportunity to see the dolphin show at the Agadir Dolphin Word, a must-see when in town.
Off the coast of the city, it is also possible to go on quad or buggy tours, but also to make excursions in the Massa valley, and enjoy its beautiful landscapes.
