Cooking Class in the Atlas Mountains

      • Moroccan cuisine is sometimes called the best cuisine of the world. This is due to the variety of spices and a lot of fresh ingredients. It is a combination of Berber, African, Arabian and Mediterranean cuisine

      • We will prepare our dishes in a family home in Tassa Ouirgane, a Berber village in the mountains, on 1100m altitude, at the entrance to the Toubkal National Parc. Here you also have the opportunity to see how to make the traditional berber bread called Tanourt, attend a tea ceremony and have a look at the wheat mill of the village

      • To come to Tassa Ouirgane, either mules are waiting for us and will take us all way up to the village in about 1 ½ hours, or you just walk. This is according to your choice. After lunch we will start our way back walking to the Ouirgane / Marigha area, along the gardens

          #3 Programme

How to make a Boucherouite Carpet Berber Experience with Knotting Workshop

          • The embroidery is made by skill in the choice and consistency of colors and eventually becomes a painting with a different expression that expresses the life and traditions of a given region or tribe. They are decorated with simple geometric shapes such as triangle, rectangle, and rectangle as well as squares.

          • The Moroccan Berber people „Amazigh“ are known for their colorful cotton carpets. They all are hand made from cotton strips, laid out in the living rooms and they are also used to sleep on. These carpets are very tough in use (when you do it like the Moroccans and take your shoes off!), can be washed and dried in the sun

          • In this workshop, you have the opportunity to knot your own, tiny carpet in a Berber family home, with Fatima. She will explain everything (I will translate of course), and at the end of the day, you can take your own little Boucharouite carpet with you.

          • This workshop takes place in Tassa Ouirgane. You can either walk or ride on a mule, about 1,5 hours from your accommodation in the Ouirgane area. When you come from Marrakech, the taxi will take you directly to the village. Material is included in the price, and also prepared, so you can start immediately.

          • If you are in a group, this workshop can also be combined with our 'Berber Experience with Cooking Class', so maybe everybody finds his favorite activity.

              #4 Programme

Mule Trek with Lunch in a Berber Family Home

              • Either the driver takes you from Marrakesh to Marigha or we will start at your hotel in the Ouirgane / Marigha area, where mules and muleteers are already waiting for us. We go up to Tassa Ouirgane, a small Berber village at the entry of the Toubkal National Park.

              • The walk leads us through landscapes with great views to the Toubkal National Park and Lake Ouirgane, uphill and downhill, and these kind mules carry us safe and with caution along these narrow paths. Our trek takes us to the jewish village of Anraz. In Torord (or in Tassa Ouirgane) we will enjoy lunch and a mint tea in a Berber family house. After this refreshment, we continue our tour and in the late afternoon we will be back in Marigha / Ouirgane, where the trek ends.

              • For those who came from Marrakesh, the driver will already be there to take you back to your hotel

                  #5 Programme

Ourika Valley Walk to the Waterfalls

                  • For this day excursion we will pick you up at your accommodation in Marrakesh at about 9am and head towards Ourika Valley, about 45 kilometers from Marrakesh.

                  • On Monday, you have the opportunity to visit the big local souk in Tnine Ourika, where all people from the mountains in this area come to meet, talk, see a doctor and do the shopping for the family for the next week, or two

                  • After this experience, we will refresh ourselves with a cup of mint tea in a local berber home, before we visit an Argan oil co-operative. You will learn how this precious oil (both types– cosmetic as well as cooking oil) is being extracted and you can also taste Amlou

                  • Our car now takes us to the starting point of our walk to the Ourika waterfalls. These waterfalls are a popular attraction for both – local people and tourists. Walking time will be about 45 minutes

                  • Our well deserved, late lunch we will enjoy in a restaurant at the stream before we start our way back to Marrakech. If it's not too late, we also can pay a visit to a pottery en route. We will back in Marrakesh in the late afternoon
